Slug - Accused Injured in Encounter Date -1.7.2024 Anchor - One of the accused involved in June 25th broad daylight robbery of Rs 34 Lacs of LIC from near Axis Bank in Kokrajhar town JD road was shot at during an encounter at Salakati in Kokrajhar. According to police sources, acting on leads, police conducted a search at Salakati Bedlangmary Tea Estate last night. During the operation, Amir Hussain, 38, of No. 3 Bhandara village under Bijni police station in Chirang district allegedly attempted to flee, prompting officers to open fire. He sustained a bullet wound on his left leg and was taken to Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar for treatment. Police have so far arrested Nural Amin Mondal of Basugaon Ulubari in Chirang district, Tuton Barman of Nayachara Part 1 Kokrajhar, Prosenjit Aich of Santinagar Kokrajhar and Amir Hussain of No. 3 Bhandara village under Bijni police station in Chirang district. Rs 21.5 Lacs of the stolen Rs 34 Lacs recovered so far. It be mentioned that the robbery, carried out by two motorcycle-borne assailants in front of Axis Bank on JD Road, was captured on CCTV. The money, being transported from LIC for deposit, was snatched in broad daylight.
