In Arunachal Pradesh, incessant heavy rainfall continues to wreak havoc across the state. India Meteorological Department has issued red alert for 9 districts in Arunachal Pradesh. The Districts are Papum pare, Kurung Kumey, East kameng, Leparada, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Namsai Lohit and Changlang. Rests of the districts are either in orange or yellow zone. In Papum Pare District, all the water bodies and the Pare River are flowing above the danger level after a cloud burst occurred today morning at around 3.30 am, inundating many low laying areas with flood water. As a result of it, the Pare Hydro project near Sagalee on the Pare River has also started releasing water from the dam. Assistant General Manager (Tech), Pare Hydro Project Taba Gagung Tebw has informed that a record 1334 Cubic Meter of water has been discharged from the Pare Dam at 8:00 am today, which is the highest since 2014. In 2023 the highest water discharge from the dam was recorded at 688.00 Cumecs. He said that the discharge from the Pare river dam may increase in coming days due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the river. He has appealed the public dwelling in the downstream of Pare Hydro project to be vigil and not venture out near the river banks in the next few days. In the Capital City Itanagar, district administration has directed to close all the schools for the next five days due to non-stop heavy rain. Road blockades due to landslides triggered by heavy rain have been reported from multiple locations along the Pasighat-Pagin-Aalo road (NH13). Siang District administration in a public advisory has appealed not to avoid the route during heavy rain and night hours. Restoration works are underway for clearing the blocked roads.
